JOB TITLE: Sound Designer 1
REPORTS TO: Program Manager - Staffing
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt, Salaried
Job Summary:
The Sound Designer 1 supports the Xbox Studio team by owning a range of post‑production audio tasks, including importing OMF/AAF files into Pro Tools, dialogue clean‑up, transition sound design, and final mixing and delivery of audio stems. This role also involves creating original sound effects, recording foley and field audio, and contributing to ongoing improvements in audio workflows and systems. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple audio tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining high production quality across gaming, marketing, and multimedia projects
Essential Functions:
Handle post-production audio tasks including downloading audio assets, importing OMF/AAF files into Pro Tools, and preparing sessions for editing and mixing.
Perform dialogue clean‑up, transition sound design, sound editing, mixing, and delivery of final audio stems.
Create, design, and implement high‑quality sound effects and audio assets for film, video, games, marketing videos, UI, and multimedia experiences.
Record foley and field audio to produce new sound assets or enhance existing ones.
Contribute to improving audio workflows by offering ideas, applying best practices, and supporting system/process enhancements.
Manage multiple mixing and design tasks simultaneously; track progress and communicate updates with minimal supervision.
Collaborate with the broader Xbox Studio team using templates, documentation, and established processes; carry forward incomplete tasks to support team continuity.
Partner effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure audio assets meet required specifications and production standards.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency with industry‑standard tools including Pro Tools, Izotope RX, EQ, signal flow, and relevant plug‑ins.
Basic knowledge of game audio implementation, including WWISE and FMOD.
Understanding of electrical systems and wiring as they relate to audio equipment.
Strong organizational, time‑management, and multitasking abilities.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and partners.
Exceptional organizational skills and strong problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across teams and with external vendors to drive alignment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely.
Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
4-7 years of experience in sound design and mixing for film, video, or related post‑production fields, with some experience in interactive/game audio.
Demonstrated experience supporting audio for film, video, games, or multimedia content.
Experience operating and maintaining audio gear such as mixing consoles, microphones, amplifiers, and DAWs (Pro Tools, Reaper, Logic Pro, Ableton Live).
Experience working with Unity or Unreal Engines.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Work Environment:
This role routinely requires using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers
This position may require the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Must be able to operate various electronic devices
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time Hybrid-WA role, defined as a combination of remote and in-office / on-site work within the Greater Seattle Area (King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties). Typically, this person would be required to come on site to our client office 2-3 days a week and as needed for projects. The office generally operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the days and hours of this position may vary week-to-week. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role is $89,000-$99,000 annually. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
